Indications & Dose:
- Hypotension refractory to fluids: 0.1 – 1 mcg/kg/min CRI
- Typically start at 0.1-0.2 mcg/kg/min, titrate by 0.05-0.1 mcg/kg/min q5-10min until MAP is 65 mmHg or another pressor is added
Preparation:
- Typically comes as 1 mg/ml.
- 4 ml added to 250 ml of D5W creates a 16 mcg/ml solution
- Ideally, should be given through a central catheter
Adverse Effects:
- Vasoconstriction and hypertension
- Decreased renal perfusion and urine output
- Extravasation injury
