Indications & Doses:
- Acute SVT:
- Dogs: 0.1 mg/kg IV over 1-2 minutes; can be repeated twice with at least 5 minutes between doses
- Cats: 0.2 mg/kg IV over 1-2 minutes; wait at least 15 minutes before dosing again
- Constant rate infusion: 0.15-0.25 mg/kg IV bolus slowly, then 5-20 mcg/kg/min
- Chronic SVT:
- Dogs: initially 1 mg/kg PO q8h; may be titrated up to a maximum of 4 mg/kg PO q8h
- Atrial fibrillation maintenance:
- 0.5-1.5 mg/kg PO q8h
- Reduce dose significantly if patient is on digoxin
- 0.5-1.5 mg/kg PO q8h
Mechanism of action:
- Calcium channel blocker; class IV anti-arrhythmic
