Indications & Doses:
- Cluster seizures or status epilepticus: 0.5-1 mg/kg IV, intranasally, rectally
- Constant rate infusion: 0.1-2 mg/kg/hr (may crystallize in tubing; light sensitive)
- Skeletal muscle relaxant or anxiolytic: 0.5-2 mg/kg IV or PO q8-12h
- Adjunctive sedative: 0.2-0.5 mg/kg IV
Reversal: Flumazenil IV
Mechanism of Action:
- Benzodiazepine
Precautions:
- Not recommended in cats due to idiosyncratic hepatic injury
- Contraindicated in patients with hepatic dysfunction and neonates
