Indications & Dose:
- Trauma/hyperfibrinolysis:
- Dogs: Acute bleeding: 150 mg/kg IV over 10 min & 15 mg/kg CRI
- Greyhound surgical prophylaxis: 15 mg/kg PO q8h x 5 days (ref)
- Acute bleeding in Greyhounds: 50 mg/kg over 1 hour then 15 mg/kg/hr for 5-8 hr
- Possible indications: thrombocytopenia, TBI, GI bleeding, bleeding splenic mass
Mechanism of Action:
- lysine analog that reversibly binds to lysine-binding sites, preventing binding of plasminogen to C-terminal lysine residues on partially degraded fibrin, preventing fibrin formation.
