Indication & Doses:
- Hypoalbuminemia:
- Goal to raise albumin to 2.0 2.5 g/dL
- Albumin deficit (g) = 0.3 x BW (kg) x 10 (albumin desired – current albumin)
- If euvolemic, administer 5% solution
- 5% = add 100 mL diluent
- Volume of 5% albumin = BW (kg) x 90 mL/kg x (2 g/dL – patient albumin) x 0.2 dL/g
- Volume of distribution = 90 mL/kg
- Target goal = 2 g/dL
- 5% albumin = 0.2 dL/g
- Goal to raise albumin to 2.0 2.5 g/dL
- Hypotension:
- Administer as 10-16% solution
- 10% = add 49 mL diluent
- 16% = add 30 mL diluent
- 450 – 800 mg/kg over 4-8h
- Administer as 10-16% solution
Adverse Effects:
- Same considerations as other transfusion products (hypersensitivity reactions)
- Volume overload possible
