Indications & Dose:
- Hyperkalemia, Hypocalcemia:
- Cat/Dog: 0.5-1.5 mL/kg of the 10% solution IV over 10-20 min
- Tip: “3 mL per cat“
- NOTE: can be given faster if patient stability require
- Cat/Dog: 0.5-1.5 mL/kg of the 10% solution IV over 10-20 min
- Severe refractory hypocalcemia (gerks):
- Constant rate infusion of 10% solution: 0.5-1.5 mL/kg bolus slowly, then 0.05-0.15 ml/kg/hr
- ECG monitoring is strongly recommended for the duration of calcium infusion
- Constant rate infusion of 10% solution: 0.5-1.5 mL/kg bolus slowly, then 0.05-0.15 ml/kg/hr
Adverse Effects:
- If injected too fast: hypotension, bradycardia, syncope, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest
