Indications & Dose:
- Hypotension / vasopressor: 5-20 mcg/kg/min
- Titrate up q5-20 min
- ~5-10 mcg/kg/min ~ contractility
- ~10-20 mcg/kg/min ~ vasopressor
Preparation:
- 12.5 mg/mL: add 10 mL to 250 mL saline/D5W/LRS = 0.5 mg/mL
Adverse Effects:
- Arrhythmias
- Extravasation: local peripheral ischemia and necrosis/sloughing
- Seizures in cats?
Mechanism of action:
- Alpha and beta-adrenergic agonist
- Catecholamine (precursor to norepinephrine and epinephrine).
